...is a very talented lady! Make no mistake, Sam knows what she's talking about. Twenty plus years as a ranchers's wife, she's herded horses, cows, sheep, and daughters. In college, she was the only girl in the LIVESTOCK SELECTION and FEEDS AND FEEDING curriculum and was everybody's "favorite date" because she'd help with the spring branding. She can construct a perfect stack of hay, keep a calf warm on the floor of her truck or the floor of her kitchen, and keep the scour medicine in her fridge separate from the salad dressing she made for last night's supper. Her "honors" and "awards" are too numerous to mention but include multiple-year nominations for "Female Cowboy Poet of the Year" from the Western Music Association. Sam's also the recipient of the 2008 Will Rogers Award for "Humorist of the Year" from the Academy of Western Artists. Besides all the gatherings she attends, the shows, fairs and festivals, trips to schools to talk with kids about Cowboy Poetry, Sam has been chosen, for many years, as one of the judges for the annual National Cowboy Poetry Rodeo competitions. Sam's background gives her all the ideas for her often humorous but sometimes tear-evoking stories. Much of her original poetry is taken from her own family's geneology, happenings from day-to-day life, from people she's met and the places she's been. Raised in eastern (Black Foot) Idaho, Sam now makes her home just outside of Ogden (Roy), Utah.
