Performer Information

A historian who was the director of libraries and a professor of American Folklife at the University of Tulsa. His published work included a history of early working cowboy music based on songs he had collected, and he was a fellow at the Smithsonian Institute. Recognized as an authority on Woody Guthrie and Bob & Johnnie Lee Wills, he also wrote the booklet accompanying the Marty Robbins Western boxes CD set, Under Western Skies, issued by the Bear Family. He annotated numerous CDs issued by the Smithsonian.
