A soundtrack composer who began writing scores for Westerns in 1930 with Edna Ferber’s “Cimarron.” By 1939 he was scoring ten pictures a year, some with co-composers. His Western credits include “The Oklahoma “ (Humphrey Bogart & James Cagney), “Dodge City” (Errol Flynn), “Virginia City” and “Santa Fe Trail” (Errol Flynn), “They Died With Their Boots On” (Errol Flynn), “The Searchers” (John Wayne), and “The Hanging Tree” (Gary Cooper), among many others.
